‘Boreal Beast’ Haskap

Boreal Beast is very vigorous and sturdy upright growing haskap. What makes Beast stand out is its later flowering and late-season fruit ripening. Its fruit are remarkable for flavour when fresh or frozen. Cross-pollination is required. Compatible with Boreal Beauty, Boreal Blizzard and Honeybee. New release 2018!

Also known as Honeyberries or Blue Honeysuckle, Canadian Haskap are superior to any other Honeyberries with sweeter, wild Blueberry flavour and larger, fleshier fruit not unlike oversize Blueberries. The plant themselves are extremely cold tolerant and these are a great fruit alternative for cold climates.

‘Boreal Beauty’ Haskap

Boreal Beauty fruits are heavy, firm, mostly oval, and hold onto branches with just the right amount of force and taste great. Bushes are strong, upright growers and show no signs of mildew. Very productive! Almost all large-fruited haskap cause branches to bend over, but not ‘Boreal Beauty’, her branches remain strong and upright. Another member of the Boreal series that flowers and ripens later than previous UofS cultivars. Cross-pollination is required. Currently only compatible with Boreal Beast. New release in 2017!

‘Boreal Blizzard’ Haskap

Boreal Blizzard is one of the first larger berried varieties set to completely change the Haskap industry! It was so named because the fruit size, productivity, and flavour stopped the breeders in their tracks. Berries are more than twice as heavy as ‘Tundra’ or ‘Borealis’. This variety is an excellent choice for home growers, U-picks and commercial harvester type orchards. The first release of the Boreal series that flowers and ripens later than previous UofS cultivars. Cross-pollination is required. Compatible with Borealis, Boreal Beast, Honey Bee & Tundra as pollinizers. New release in 2016.

‘Eclipse’ Asparagus

Eclipse is a green asparagus hybrid, released from the world-leading asparagus breeding program at the University of Guelph in Ontario, Canada. This male dominant cultivar is an improvement on Millennium with increased spear diameter and improved precocity (reaching maturity earlier) means better yields and faster returns. Has great potential to be used for white spear production as well. While it was developed for the commercial industry, the improvements in yield and foliar disease tolerance makes it a great choice for small scale and home producers.

‘Millennium’ Asparagus

A cold-hardy asparagus that maintains tip tightness as it grows. Since Millennium is well-adapted to various soil types, including heavier soils, growers can utilize land previously unsuitable for asparagus production. Male crowns which are more productive. Spears are tight, green and large.  Bred by the University of Guelph in Ontario, Canada, Millennium is becoming the new industry standard for asparagus production. Intermediate resistance to rust.

‘Purple Passion’ Asparagus

Huge crops! This productive variety will give you impressive yields each and every year. Its extra-large, uniform, tender spears are good for fresh eating, cooking or making salads. Emerges as spears for harvest at the desired thickness. Spears mature into feathery soft, fern-like foliage. Cold-hardy and heat-tolerant. Harvest from early April through May. Mostly all-male plants.

‘Westcot’ Apricot

$75.00

Hardy. Pink flowers cover the tree each spring. Medium-sized heart-shaped light orange-coloured fruit with a red blush. Firm flesh is golden-yellow and freestone. Excellent for fresh eating or canning. Self-pollinating. Ripens in July-August. Winter hardy in zone 3, but more reliable for fruit production in zones 5+. Developed at the Morden, Manitoba Research Station, released 1982.

Horseradish

Spicy, edible root rich in many nutrients and minerals, belonging to the plant family Cruciferae (the same family as many vegetables the common gardener knows well – cabbage, brussels sprouts, broccoli and cauliflower!). Very forgiving plant that can tolerate many different sun exposures but does best in full sun to partial sun. If you’re short on room, even consider growing this wonderful plant in a container!

Also known as sunchokes, these perennial relative of the sunflower that produces edible, white-fleshed tubers are great for cooking! Not only do they produce masses of beautiful yellow blooms 7-8cm in diameter, the tubers they produce contain no starch but inulin rather, making them a great addition for a diabetics diet or anyone who’s looking for an alternative to potatoes or other starches! Very similar to planting potatoes!

Kinnikinnick Bearberry

Hardy native mat-forming evergreen groundcover with small shiny foliage and pink, bell-shaped blooms in spring followed by red berries. Prefers a moist, well-drained soil. Drought tolerant once established. Kinnikinnick berries are edible but mealy and tasteless, but were an important traditional food source for some First Nations groups because of their persistence on branches throughout the winter. Due to their texture and lack of taste, the berries were usually processed, cooked, or preserved in some way. Young leaves can be used in tea as well.

‘Honey Queen’ Raspberry

Honey Queen Raspberry is known for its sweet honey flavour and unique yellow colour. Its berries are soft and medium-sized, nice for picking and eating in the summer. It was developed in Rocky Mountain House by Robert Erskine and is very winter hardy. Canes are yellowish, floricane, arched and moderately spiny.

Honey Queen should be trellised upright for best results. While all raspberries prefer the sun, Honey Queen is the best option for planting in shady areas. Floricane.
