COMMUNITY SUPPORTED AGRICULTURE
CSA programs were created for the mutual commitment between a farm and a community of supporters. It links people directly with their source of food, providing them with the freshest, sustainable products while giving farmers a source of income at their time of highest expense (early spring). CSA members also receive special insight into the farm, events and sales from their farm.
We grow a vast array of different vegetables throughout the season. Members receive a “share” box filled with a selection of Certified Organic vegetables, fruits and herbs. The number and quantity of each item depends on your chosen box size. We do our best to offer 8-12 items harvested at their peak in the season.
Our goal is to provide at least one Salad Green, two Root crops and one Table Green, along with other vegetables as soon as possible. Fruits have been limited in recent years, however, we look to improve this in 2019. We attempt to make each week’s box different through detailed planning of different cultivars to ripen in successions.
There have been recent studies conducted which have concluded that by becoming a CSA member, you increase your fruit and vegetable consumption. Our members can vouch for that theory too! The deliveries each week increase your convenience to the freshest, local products, making it easier for you to use in your everyday meals.
It was also noted in these studies that CSA members and their families continue to consume healthier diets even after the season is over! They call it a behaviour change, we say its a “veg-education”!! CSA members become creative with new recipes and ideas to utilize each weeks box and different products they would typically not purchase.
Members will also get a chance to connect with other members of our CSA community. This is a great way to meet an array of members in our community that share your same interest in our farm.
By joining Linden Lane Farms’ Thyme Saver CSA Program, I am making a pledge to support the farm. I share the risks and challenges that constantly exist when growing food. I understand quantities and timing of harvest may be affected by adverse weather conditions or events.
Members will receive their weekly package either from the farm or at the specific pickup location. Your only commitment is to pick up your box at the location within the specified time period. We understand people may go on vacation during our growing season and be unable to pick up their box. The best option is to have another person pick it up on your behalf. If you miss your weekly pickup, without previous notification, your share will be donated to a local charity (Nelson Women’s Centre, Nelson Food Cupboard, etc.) without credit unless in an emergency situation.
We will grow food that is free from synthetic chemicals, nutritionally dense, and safe to eat. Linden Lane Farms adheres to BC and Canadian National Organic standards, using organic, sustainable and traditional methods to plant, cultivate, and harvest food; and to control disease and insects. To ensure your commitment to food safety, Linden Lane Farms is working towards becoming the first Canada Gap certified produce packing facility in the Central Kootenays.
We will ensure your box is packaged with the freshest produce. We will also attempt to respond timely to any member inquiries into the farm and their membership.

CSA WEEKLY PICK UP LOCATIONS
Can I choose what's in my box each week?
At this point in time, we are unable to offer completely customized CSA boxes. Currently, boxes are seasonal and vary each week. We do our best to offer a variety of produce that is suitable for weekly meals. The program is able to accommodate medical allergies if notified in advance.
Do I have to purchase a container for the box program?
Linden Lane Farms’ provides members with two CSA Rubbermaid totes. New members will be required to provide a mandatory $25.00 refundable damage/loss deposit for their first year. The deposit is due upon first pick up. These Rubbermaids are labelled and numbered specifically for each CSA member. The two totes are to be rotated weekly; pick up full tote while dropping off the empty tote. If we do not receive our empty tote, your next week’s produce will come in plastic bags. We do clean the totes periodically, but we rely on our members to keep them clean over the course of the season as we are busy growing your food.
Where are the weekly pickup locations?
We offer delivery into Castlegar (Sundays) and Nelson (Saturdays) and pick up for Slocan Valley residents from the Farm (Sundays). Please be aware of the pickup location’s set time as we are unable to wait around for late pickups.
If you are interested, we require a minimum number of members per week to evaluate new pickup locations depending on the distance from the farm. We are also looking at midweek deliveries to drop off Hubs, please contact us for more information.
How can I change my pickup location?
If you would like to change your pick up location, please contact us via email. We will do the best to accommodate.
How do I sign up for a membership?
We have switched to online sign ups! Please follow the instructions on the FARM SHOP page and checkout. We will email you with a confirmation of your membership after payment.
We also have a paper signup form for people that prefer a physical method. These can be scanned and emailed back to us, and we will add you manually into the program.
Can I volunteer for CSA credit?
Our CSA model was set up to help provide the farm with funds to purchase supplies and seeds early in the season. Although we appreciate the enthusiasm to work on the farm, we require the financial assistance to get the farm started off in the spring. We are unable to give out credit for volunteering towards your CSA membership.
Do you offer home delivery?
We currently are unable to accommodate for home deliveries. We are looking into this feature for future seasons if interest continues!
How can I reduce the amount of plastic per week?
To keep certain products at top quality, we use plastic bags. Over the course of the season, members might find themselves with a lot of empty bags. We are unable to reuse these bags due to food safety regulations. We are encouraging members this year to purchase reusable plastic containers (Tupperware) for items such as baby salad greens, broccoli florets, beans, and cherry tomatoes. These containers must be labelled with the member’s name, kept clean and sanitary by members, and placed clean into empty totes upon return (this lets us fill them up for the next week’s box). Long English Cucumbers will always be wrapped for quality.
What happens when I cannot pick up my box?
Boxes that are not picked up will be donated to a local charity within 24 hours. Please contact us as soon as possible if you are unable to make it due to an emergency. If you are planning a summer vacation and will be missing a pickup or multiple pickups, we ask you to make arrangements with friends or family to pick up your box or donate it to charity. No value will be refunded for missed pick up with the exception of emergencies. Please let us know your plans as soon as possible!
How do I pay?
Full Payment must be received before March 1st for 5% discount. Full payments after this date will be subject to program availability and do not receive the discount. We now offer an Installment Payment Plan: three partial payments due on February 28th, March 31st and April 30th, for the total cost of membership! We currently accept Cash, Cheque, or Email Money Transfer.
CASH: All cash payments must be done in person.
CHEQUES: Cheques must be signed to “Matthew Carr Attn: Linden Lane Farms” and can be mailed to 4163 View Ridge Road, Bonnington, BC V0G-2G3. Please let us know if you are mailing in your payment.
EMT: Email money transfers must be made to “firstname.lastname@example.org”. Please send a separate email regarding your password for the transfer.
CREDIT CARD: We are able to securely process all major credit cards. All CSA credit card purchases will be subject to a service charge (Smalls $10 and Larges $20) to balance additional cost with offering the credit card service. We will only accept credit card information from the website and by phone.
Do you offer mid-season refunds?
In the CSA model, members are seen as active farm partners, sharing the risks and rewards of the harvest. Should you choose to cancel your subscription, we cannot offer a refund for shares already paid for once the season has started in May. The CSA partnership sustains our farm, individual members, and the community at large. Please contact us if you have any questions regarding our refund policy.
How do I add eggs to my box?
We are focusing on vegetable production until Matthew and Lynnea are finished University. At this point, we do not have enough hens to produce eggs for all of our members. If we do have extra eggs, you will be able to add them to your box by responding to the weekly emails. We also accept clean, used plastic and pulp egg cartons at any pickup.
