Fruit has an attractive, 70% scarlet skin over a yellow background with a firm, deep yellow flesh and excellent flavor. High resistance to bacterial spot and brown rot, and has few split pits. A very nice fresh-eating freestone variety that is also good for canning and preserves. ‘Hall’s Hardy’ Almond
Grows anywhere peaches thrive! Pretty and productive. Large, hard-shell nuts give way to smaller bittersweet kernels. This attractive tree yields large crops of crunchy almonds in fall, and its lovely pink flowers make it a landscape standout in spring. Grows wherever peaches thrive. Matures to be 15–20′ tall, 10–15′ wide. Ripens in late September. Self-pollinating but should be crossed with a peach or nectarine.
CAUTION! The seed is classified as a bitter almond. The bitter taste comes from glycoside amygdalin, which is the precursor to hydrogen cyanide (prussic acid). Although the seeds contain relatively low amounts of glycoside amygdalin, it is recommended to boil or roast seeds to reduce potential risks since glycoside amygdalin is destroyed by high temperatures.
