Believed to be the hottest pepper in the world at one point, the Carolina Reaper is a serious scorcher! For those extreme pepper eaters, Carolina Reaper is a must. For those less adventurous, they make a great conversation piece in the garden. These devious little peppers are fiery red with a little scythe shaped tail at the base of many fruit, hence the name reaper. The heat rating on these monsters can be over 1,500,000 Scovilles; in comparison, the spicy habanero is a mere 100,000+ Scovilles!

Soil Requirements: High organic matter and well-draining. Consistent moisture necessary during fruit formation.
Attributes:
Extreme Hot Pepper
Special Considerations: Peppers require lots of warmth during the growing season however too much heat can cause blossom abortion. Utilizing low-tunnels before flowering can help increase plant growth without blossom damage. Plastic mulches and greenhouses are also beneficial in warming the soil and extending the growing season. Fruit thinning may also be required as peppers tend to overcrowd the plant leading to exposed fruit (sunscald), poor airflow (disease issues) and malformed fruits.

Enjoy bountiful harvests of delicious fruits from an easy to reach, compact plant. White spring blossoms provide an attractive display, followed by clusters of dark red, sour-sweet fruit which ripen in late summer. During trials, Juliet was always first or close second in sweetness and ranked the best flavour for fresh eating directly from the tree when allowed to ripen. Great for processing and fresh eating. Part of the University of Saskatchewan Romance Series (2004). Although sour is in their name, they can be surprisingly sweet when harvested at the right stage of ripeness. Grows well as a bushy hedge instead of pruning into a single-trunked tree.

Astro produces a plant with leaves that are less lobed and more strap-like. It has a milder flavour than wild arugula. Astro is perfect for baby greens in early spring and fall – even in winter, as it’s very cold hardy. Baby greens are ready to cut in only 21 days. With a nutty, spicy taste that is sometimes pungent or peppery, arugula really perks up salads, sandwiches, and even pizza. It is very cold hardy and has a milder flavour when grown in cool weather.
