Special Considerations: Dwarf Sour Cherries should be grown as shrubs, not trees. Once ripe, fruit can be harvested by shaking the bush or by hand. The skins of the fruit tear when harvested from the stem and must be processed relatively quickly to avoid loss. Fruit is also susceptible to Cherry Fruit Fly (maggots) however affected fruit floats on water and can be easily screened out after harvest.
Sour Cherry Planting & Pruning
Dwarf sour cherries (DSC) are bushes, not trees! They can be easily maintained as individual shrubs or as a hedgerow planting. For individual plants, plant at least 5′ apart in the landscape. For hedgerow plantings, 3′-5′ between plants and 12′-18′ between rows. Planting at least 1-3″ deeper than the pot is recommended to increase root development. Young plants may be planted horizontally below the surface to induce more suckering.
The majority of pruning should occur in early spring before the buds break dormancy, usually March-April. Damaged or diseased wood can be removed at any time during the season. It is important to never remove more than 25% of the total wood during a single season as it will reduce flowering and yields. These cherries should be regeneratively pruned by removing some of the oldest shoots to the ground every year to allow new shoots to take their place.
DSC buds are typically either vegetative (shoots) or reproductive (flowers/fruits), but never both. Fruit spurs generally live for a couple of seasons and die. After a couple of seasons of fruiting, buds will become clustered towards the ends of the branches leaving most of the branch bare/naked of leaves. Heading back pruning does not work well with these DSC since it may remove most of the buds located near the ends of the branches. It is best to prune back the branch or the entire shoot to allow new growth to regenerate in its place.

We strongly recommend ordering before April to secure your order. Orders are dependent on available inventory! Some stock may have limited available quantities.
We reserve the right to offer a substitution or refund if stock becomes unavailable.
Orders will be reserved once payment has been received. Payment can be made by cheque, gift card, email money transfer or credit card. Please follow the instructions on your invoice.
To avoid delays in order fulfilment, we ask that all orders be paid in full by April 14. You will receive a friendly email reminder of your remaining balance or outstanding payments before these deadlines.
Some items are available to be purchased in bulk quantities. Please contact us for bulk orders.

FREE DELIVERY:

We do not offer home delivery on orders less than $500.

Some items may be available to ship via Canada Post. You will be able to select a shipping method at checkout if your order qualifies.

CANCELATIONS/REFUNDS:
Before March 31st: Orders may be cancelled and refunded minus a service fee (10% of total order value) to cover administrative and payment processing fees.
After March 31st: Orders may be cancelled and refunded up to 50% of total order value.
After May 1st: Orders may be cancelled without refund.
*Due to the nature of working with live plant materials, full refunds (100%) will be offered due to inventory shortages.
